Humdrum **kern scores. Humdrum: music21’s humdrum.spineParser, which reads **kern scores.

A Humdrum file is a table. Each column is a spine – a part – and each line a moment; a cell holds a note (4c# is a quarter C sharp above middle C), a barline (=12), an instruction (*clefG2, *M3/4) or a dot where nothing new happens. A spine may split into two voices (*^) and come together again (*v). **dynam spines carry dynamics and **text spines the words sung, and **harm spines the harmony read into the music, each said by *staff to belong to a **kern spine.
